A fatal attack by armed internet fraudsters, also known as Yahoo Boys, on EFCC officers has left one officer dead and another critically injured in Anambra. The incident occurred on Friday during an EFCC operation targeting suspected cybercriminals.
The team, which came from their zonal headquarters in Enugu, was met with unexpected gunfire, forcing them to retreat for safety.
The slain officer, an assistant superintendent, had recently passed a promotional examination. The injured officer remains in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital. This tragic incident has highlighted concerns about the welfare of EFCC officers, with one officer revealing that they no longer have life insurance and that compensation for fallen officers' families has not been issued since the tenure of Farida Waziri.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident, and investigations are ongoing. The suspect is in custody, and the firearm used in the attack has been recovered.
